Homework Expectations
Homework in math is given as a way of showing development of mastery to a skill covered in class. It is important for your child to demonstrate their understanding of a skill on their homework. We use homework as a way of practicing skills taught in the classroom. If they make a mistake, that’s ok! We will work with your children to ensure their understanding of the skill and help them succeed! There will be two types of graded homework: nightly homework and weekly spiral reviews. Students who do not complete a nightly homework assignment will have 5 points deducted off their homework completion grade. All students will start with a 100 for this grade at the start of each trimester. Spiral reviews will be given each week on a Monday and due that Friday. These reviews will be collected and graded each week. It is essential each student put forth 100% effort in completing their homework. Show perseverance! Working lunch detentions may be issued for frequently forgotten homework. |
Class Preparation
It is essential your child come prepared to math class every day. Your child is required to have a pencil (all math must be done in pencil), a pen or colored pencils (for correcting purposes only), their math notebook/binder (provided by teacher), a folder (to keep handouts in), completed homework, agenda book, and an independent reading book. |
Assessments
Your child will be assessed at various points through the year. Some assessments will be formative (i.e. quizzes throughout a unit), and some will be summative (unit tests). It is important that your child prepare for these assessments. If your child earns below an 80 on an assessment, they will be given the opportunity to improve their score. They will meet with the teacher to go over the skill(s) they struggled with, and will then have the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of these skills after receiving extra help. |
